Have you ever wondered what it would be like to compete for Team USA? To come together with the best in the world and battle it out on the course? You may never compete on the world stage, but you can qualify and participate in the USAT Age Group National Championship in 2017.
This year the race will be held in Omaha Nebraska (same host hotel as you may have seen in for the U.S. Swimming Trials) on August 12-13, 2017. The Olympic Distance Race is held on the 12th and the Sprint Distance Race will be held on the 13th.
To qualify for the USAT Age Group Olympic Distance National Championship Race you must qualify. The Sprint Distance race requires no qualification and some people will opt to do both. If you are looking for a qualifying race, it must be a USAT Sanctioned triathlon of any distance (super-sprint to ironman distance) but cannot be a duathlon, aquathlon, or aquabike event. These events have their own national championship races.
You must also participate as an age-group athlete. Elite, Novice, Athena and Clydesdale categories will not be eligible to qualify.
Qualification and registration for the event will end on August 4th, 2017. Anyone who qualifies after that date will be eligible for the 2018 Age Group National Championship Race.
There are four ways you can qualify for the race.
- Finish in the top 10% of your age group in any eligible race.
- Finish in the top 33% of your age group at any Regional Olympic Distance Championship Race or Regional Olympic Distance Special Qualifier Race. You can find a list of Regional Championship Races here.
- Finish in the top 33% of the previous year’s USAT Age Group National Championship Race.
- Be a member of Team USA or an All-American.
